EVENT - Professional Speaker Series

12/5/2017 6:00 pm – 07:30 pm | Campus Events

Fusion Academy Park Avenue is proud to present Dr. Laura Phillips from the Child Mind Institute. Join us for an evening of learning about Grit in a casual atmosphere. We’ll provide refreshments, all you need to bring is your questions.

How Important is Grit?
This workshop will discuss the role that grit, a trait often characterized by courage, conscientiousness and resilience, plays in the success of a child with a learning disability. We will examine how to define grit and how it can be measured in a child.  We will also review interventions that promote the development of social and emotional resilience in children and how to enhance those skills to protect children with reading disorders from emotional distress.
Laura Phillips, PsyD, ABPdN is a board certified clinical neuropsychologist in the Learning and Development Center at the Child Mind Institute. She specializes in the neuropsychological evaluation of children, adolescents and young adults with a wide range of conditions that impact learning, behavior and social-emotional functioning, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disorders and social cognitive weaknesses. Also trained in the treatment of children with anxiety and mood disorders, Dr. Phillips conducts in-depth psychological assessments and thoughtfully considers the complex interaction between a child’s learning, emotions and school placement.
