EVENT - Perfectionism and Anxiety on the Playing Field and in the Classroom

Noted sport psychologist and psychoanalyst Dr. Tom Ferraro will discuss the widespread issue of perfectionism both in athletes and students. He will talk about the symptoms of perfectionist and how internalized harsh demands produce these symptoms. He will discuss how our exposure to celebrities, super stars and the constant barrage of advertising images have created a shame based and an empty population whose perfectionistic strivings produce high achievement but chronic anxiety, stress, psychosomatics pain and depression as well. He will attempt to outline the important difference between perfectionism and passion and describe the crucial role of the parent in mirroring every child’s strengths and achievements.
