EVENT - Parenting Through Teen Stress

3/28/2018 6:30 pm – 08:00 pm | Campus Events

Although the challenges of adolescence are often treated as “teen drama,” the stress experienced by teens is, in fact, a significant health concern. Failure to identify and implement strategies for coping with the stresses of the teen years can result in significant impacts on both physical and psychological health, including the emergence of anxiety and depression, as well as potentially dangerous coping behaviors such as substance misuse, self-injury, and risk-taking behaviors. How can parents best support their children as they navigate the stresses of being a teenager? Please join us on March 28 for an interactive discussion with Dr. Alexandra Stratyner. Dr. Stratyner, a psychologist who specializes in the treatment of teens and young adults with substance use disorders and other mental health concerns, will share skills that teens (and their parents!) can use to manage stress and prevent distress, and explore how empowering teens with strategies for stress management helps foster resilience, motivation, and strength.
