EVENT - Lunch & Learn: School Refusal

11/9/2018 12:00 pm – 01:30 pm | Campus Events

Growing up as a teenager is one of the most challenging times in one’s life. The demands of school can often generate anxiety and opposition. Physical complaints, avoidance, isolation, and anger regularly produce strained relationships within the home environment.

School refusal is becoming an epidemic, as cited in Chicago Tribune’s three part series, Anxiety High, published in November of 2017. Come learn more about school anxiety and how to establish healthier outlooks in our children from our speaker, Dr. Andrew Rosenbloom.

Dr. Rosenbloom is a licensed clinical psychologist. He received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. He has been working with children, adolescents, adults, and families for over ten years. Dr. Rosenbloom’s clinical experience includes working at Children’s Memorial Hospital, The Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School at The University of Chicago, Jewish Child and Family Services, and Compass Health Center.

Dr. Rosenbloom specializes in School Refusal/Anxiety treatment, as he was a Director of a School Refusal Partial Hospitalization Program for five years. Another specialty is working with amateur athletes struggling with confidence, frustration tolerance, and performance anxiety. Dr. Rosenbloom has over 10 years of coaching experience. He provides seminars to parents and coaches, focusing on character development of youth athletes. In addition, Dr. Rosenbloom is an adjunct professor at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, teaching sport psychology courses.
