Frederick Doe


I was born in Chicago and raised in a Midwest suburb, whereupon completing high school I moved to the Bay Area and began attending community college. After exploring various areas of interest, I eventually focused on the study of political economy and pursued a Bachelor of Arts at U.C. Berkeley. While deliberating my next move after graduation, I was offered a position designing and teaching the social science curricula for inner-city high school students and was somewhat surprised to discover I had a latent affinity for teaching.

That was nearly ten years ago. Since then, I have had the distinct privilege of teaching a range ocourses to adolescents and adults alike in both classroom and one-on-one settings for public and private schools. They say you never truly learn something until you try to teach it to others. I have greatly enhanced my knowledge of the subjects I’ve taught while learning a lot about myself in the process. Such is the hidden gift of teaching, as my favorite professor and mentor used to say: that at the end of the day, we are teachers and students, all.
