Music and Recording Arts Teacher/Mentor

Drew Krag teaches music and recording arts at Fusion Academy Marin, where he also acts as a Homework Café teacher. Drew brings 15+ years’ experience teaching music, along with an infectious enthusiasm for life, to our campus.

Drew’s first taste of music education was in Detroit during the 1980’s when he began learning the piano. Struggling with the traditional methods of music education, he went through four different piano teachers in five years. Then Drew picked up the guitar and never put it down. With the help of his guitar teacher, Drew went on to win first place in regional music competitions three years in a row.

In addition to his regular study, Drew spent a few weeks each summer at The National Guitar Workshop where he received instruction from: John Scofield, Jim Hall, Paul Gilbert, Pat Martino, and Mike Stern. In 1999, he set his sails to the Windy City to attend Columbia College Chicago with a concentration in Jazz Guitar Performance. During his time at Columbia, Drew worked with jazz legends William Russo and Frank Dawson. He also broadened his education by studying audio production and music-business practices.

After graduating from Columbia College in 2004, Drew and his friends transformed a raw loft into a production facility and learning center that could accommodate anything from a small audio recording session to a fully crewed film shoot. During this time, Drew began to expand his audience by producing video versions of his guitar lessons. In 2007, was born. Today, his YouTube page has over 3 million hits and thousands of subscribers from all over the world.

In 2011, after many vacations in the Bay Area, Drew decided to say goodbye to the frosty frigid winters of Chicago and moved to sunny San Rafael, where he continues to teach, produce, perform and share the gift of music with students of all ages.
