Colette DeDonato

As an undergraduate in English at UC Berkeley, I realized that I not only enjoyed reading and analyzing literature and poetry, I also found pleasure and passion in writing. After completing an MFA in Creative Writing at San Francisco State University, I began my teaching career in the Bay Area, teaching writing workshops for teens through the San Francisco WritersCorps program. I’ve worked professionally as a writer and editor, taught middle and high school students at a charter school in Oakland and through local programs in the Santa Cruz area. Working one-on-one with Cabrillo College students, I have come to believe in this model of teaching. I have an 11-year-old daughter who loves to read and write, and as a parent, I find it thrilling to see this love of language and stories and drama develop in her. In my spare time I am at the beach in Santa Cruz with my dog, or at my desk writing a thing or two.
