Melissa Pizzonia

Science Teacher

Melissa joins Fusion as a Chemistry teacher. Melissa will provide students with all the necessary skills to be successful in the field of chemistry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Bioscience from Farmingdale State College. After graduating with her bachelor’s, she got a job in the Chemistry department at Farmingdale State College where she works in the chemistry lab with college students. Melissa has been at Farmingdale for 5 years where she has been working with students taking general chemistry to organic chemistry! Being a teaching assistant in the lab has really shown Melissa how rewarding it is to work with students and be able to see them learn and progress. Melissa has such a passion for chemistry education that she works as a private tutor for high school and college chemistry.

In addition to working Melissa is also back in school to obtain her Master’s degree in Materials Science and Chemical Engineering at Stony Brook University.  Melissa also loves being in the lab and doing experiments. She has had the opportunity to work in the Biomedical Nanomaterials lab at Stony Brook to do research where she made her own gold nanoparticles!

When Melissa isn’t at work or studying she enjoys reading, hiking, playing sport, being outdoors, and spending time with her friends, family and her dog Gino.
