The Fusion Academy Student Experience

Outside of their one-to-one classes, students have ample social opportunities to make friends and interact with their peers. Our Homework Café is where they finish their coursework, but when they’ve done that, they’re able to socialize in the Social Homework Café space. Students also can join clubs, go on field trips, and attend events for their enrichment. Our Director of Homework Café plans and facilitates activities around social-emotional learning themes so students get a well-rounded experience.

Clubs & Groups

Clubs and groups are formed on campus around topics of student interest. Some are student-led while others are headed by teachers or staff. You’ll find different clubs at each campus, but here are examples from across the country:

  • Running Club
  • D&D Club
  • Writer’s Club
  • Yoga Club
  • Documentary Club
  • Drama Club
  • Student Government

Field Trips

Fusion field trips include educational, community service, and fun opportunities, all focused on expanding minds and connecting students. Trips vary by campus, but this is a sampling of past field trips by our campuses:

  • Planetarium visits
  • Whale watching
  • Nature hikes
  • Art museums
  • Volunteering at an animal shelter
  • Indoor rock climbing
  • Visits to local colleges/universities

Community Action Program

The Community Action Program (CAP) is a campus-wide program that encourages students to be engaged community citizens. Students are required to participate in one CAP event annually. It is designed to be student-led and the experiences emphasize Social-Emotional Learning and engagement with challenges of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through the lens of our school-wide learner outcomes, our students raise their awareness and compassion around community challenges, and become part of civic solutions (locally, regionally, & worldwide).

Events

Students typically have a lunch period at the same time each day. If approved by their parents, high schoolers can have off-campus privileges, but many choose to eat together in the Homework Café. This is also the time we hold weekly student meetings so all can be present.

Each campus team plans their own special events for students, but all campuses hold the traditional rites of passage such as graduation and prom.
