Mary Faulkner Jones Solof is a retired teacher from Wauconda CUSD #118, where she taught 6th grade Drama, Study Skills and Decision Making, 7th grade Public Speaking and Current Events, and 8th grade Mass Media Communication, Project Citizen and College/Careers. In addition to her teaching duties, she also directed/produced the spring play, supervised the Drama Club and Newspaper Club. She has taught workshops for The Illinois Theatre Association. Prior to working in Wauconda, she directed musicals at Carmel High School for 6 years. She will be bringing a range of expertise and knowledge as a teacher to Fusion Academy.
Mary received her B.A. in Theatre and Dance from Barat College in Lake Forest, IL. She has graduate level classes in Communication, Media and Theatre from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. Other classwork has been done in technology and Desktop Publishing as well as theatre workshops at the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario, Canada.
Her theatre background includes performing in community, summer stock and dinner theater venues, directing in education and community settings, choreography, tech producing, designing and building sets, designing and building costumes. Her experience also includes pattern work for a dress designer and running a custom costume business.
Mary has been a president, vice-president, treasurer and/or general board member for Deerfield Community Nursery School, Festival Arts of Antioch, and Lakeside Congregation Sisterhood. She is an active participant in social action events (food for the homeless, refugee project, PADS, etc.), as well as the Illinois Education Association.
Her hobbies include reading, Sudoku puzzles, sewing and crafts, art, and travel.
