Overview of Fusion Forums
Our traditional programming will continue to operate the regular Mon-Thurs model with one-to-one instruction. Given state requirements, all full time students will be required to attend school on Friday, whether that be the group Forums or other Friday programming (wellness, tutoring and mentoring, enrichment, P.E., field trips, and one-to-one classes).
Forums are inquiry-based and student-driven experiences. Students choose from a variety of different Forums when they enroll. Teachers help facilitate the Forum, and while no grades are issued, the Forums appear on the transcript, and students build a digital portfolio to share with colleges or universities.
At the end of 10 weeks, the Forum participants will present their project or translate their experience through public presentation or performance to demonstrate their application of learning. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about project idea formulation, sequence, organization, time management, launching, and delivery.
How Forum Works
Upon enrollment, students form groups for the Forum topics chosen during enrollment or orientation.
Students set the stage for their Forum on the first day by completing a series of team-building exercises. Over the course of 10 weeks, the group continues by determining the desired outcome of the Forum, mapping the project, researching, creating, and finally presenting.
Sample Forum Topics:
Soundbites from Stage
Students develop their presentation skills while determining the ultimate TED-like talk including visual aids and culminating in Soundbites from Stage where students present their talks to the Fusion community.
Behind the Curtain: Artist Exhibition
Working together, students conceptualize an art show event, plan, and run it on campus. Additionally, students may produce their own works to show while encouraging others to lend pieces to exhibit.
The Art of Bots & Geeking-Out
Students of all skill levels work together to create, build, and program a unique robot.
Myth Busters: Debunking Wellness Fads
Students delve into the heart of current and often controversial fads to uncover the truth. Through research and debate, student groups articulate and present their findings to an audience.
Risky Business in Social Change
Students target one or more major challenges locally, nationally, or internationally and develop a solution to solve the problem. Together they take the concept through the stages of development culminating in a presentation to mock investors.
Amplify Your Voice WordSlam
Students develop their own unique voices in spoken word and poetry. Working together, they research styles while developing a style unique to them. Students write and workshop pieces, refine presentation, and improve skills. As a team, participants manage the logistics of planning the event and presenting to the Fusion community.
