The course is an introduction to statistics and probability theory. It begins with an overview of data, goes through an introduction to probability theory, and ends with statistical inference. Students will be familiar with data collection, graphical displays, types of data and calculating data. Students will also be familiar with the basic rules of probability and will be able to use them to make predictions and to analyze. Students will understand how statistics and probability are used to make inferences about populations. Students will use technology and real data throughout the course. Students will be expected to manipulate data and formulas, as well as demonstrate more independence and deeper understanding of the mathematics behind statistics. Finally, students will be expected to apply their knowledge to a data project they design and execute.
