Math 7 is the second of three courses in an integrated middle school mathematics sequence. The content present in the course covers five main areas of mathematics: ratios and proportional reasoning, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and probability and statistics. Students work more closely with fractions in this course as they begin to develop an understanding of all operations with rational numbers extending into solving more complex linear equations. This broadens their view of the number system and allows for connections to previous courses. There is a heavy emphasis on real-world applications in relation to percent, scale drawings, and area/volume concepts. The course concludes with students seeing the importance of random sampling in the realm of probability and statistics through the use of simulations and experiments.
