Film Studies is structured to develop students’ understanding of the impact of film across the world and throughout history. Students will become familiar with the basic terminology and elements of filmmaking and narrative structure to improve their critical thinking, as well as their ability to communicate critical responses to films. Through class demonstrations, hands-on assignments, and critiques, students will be exposed to concepts such as the aesthetic, compositional, technical, and sensory properties of film. In-depth study of several movements in film will broaden the student’s knowledge of the medium’s history and evolution. Students will analyze films and study filmmakers from various cultures and eras.
