This course will explore the underlying principles in Astronomy at a more rigorous level, starting with a brief history of how our understanding of our position in the Universe has evolved through the ages. Students will be familiar with the units and language used in Astronomy, the mathematics used to help solve the mysteries of the universe, as well as the tools used in obtaining data from the cosmos. Students will look at the Big Ideas that encompass astronomy such as nuclear fusion, the Big Bang, light and energy, and observable patterns. They will understand the questions that are currently being asked by astronomers and cosmologists and the methods being utilized to answer those questions.
