Katie Flood

Math Teacher/Mentor

Katie is delighted to be a math and science teacher at Fusion Academy.  She grew up as the oldest of four girls in a loving family and graduated from Glenbrook South High School in Glenview.  Katie earned her BA in mathematics from Hamilton College and MSEd in secondary education from Northwestern University.  She has had the fortune of working with a variety of learners in the summation of more than a decade of teaching, tutoring, and mentoring middle and high school students in both traditional and alternative classroom settings, as well as one-on-one.  In her various experiences, Katie has found that working one-on-one has provided her with the invaluable opportunity to meet students where they are and best help them progress along their zone of proximal development.  She embraces students with empathy, operates from a strength-based approach, and is dedicated to helping students cultivate the spheres of their multi-faceted development.  Outside of the classroom, Katie enjoys spending time with loved ones, physical fitness, movies, relaxing at home, vacationing, and learning.  She lives in Vernon Hills with her husband, daughter, and rescue dog.
