Gompers Preparatory Academy (GPA), is a college prep charter school serving primarily African American and Latino students in one of San Diego's lowest income neighborhoods. Yvonne taught 9th grade Integrated Math I and 11th grade Integrated Math III. Prior to working at GPA, Yvonne taught at Chaparral High School. Chaparral is one of the largest continuation high schools in San Diego providing alternative education for struggling students. Students attend Chaparral for a variety of reasons including poor attendance, lack of academic success and behavioral issues. During this time, Yvonne attended professional development courses focused on closing achievement and opportunity gaps.

Yvonne's teaching experiences have allowed her to develop a strong skill set relevant to the academic mission of Fusion Academy. Yvonne believes all children should have access to a great education as they are our future. Yvonne's wish is to contribute to the Fusion Academy community and provide its scholars with a positive, loving, and respectful learning experience.
