English Department Head
Chris Smith serves as an English Teacher for all grades and ages. He was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but attended Ithaca College in upstate New York where he graduated summa cum laude with bachelor's degrees in both English and Political Science. He has spent the past few years teaching high school English with Teach For America at East Feliciana high school in Louisiana, and lecturing seminars at Ithaca College on economics and writing. Chris is versed in teaching a wide variety of literature from Ancient Greek epics to modern American dramas, and also specializes in non-fiction narratives and autobiographies.
As might be expected of an English teacher, Chris is an avid reader. Currently, he is savoring non-western literary traditions by reading novels from India, Sudan, and Western Samoa (among many others). When he isn't reading, Chris enjoys hiking and being outdoors. However, he is also an avid video gamer and has logged many hours playing his Playstation 4.
