English/History Teacher & Mentor
Deanne Owen was born in San Diego, CA as a Navy brat! She lived in Norfolk and Cuba prior to moving to Spencer, West Virginia, population 2,500, where she lived until college.
She attended Rhodes College, formerly Southwestern at Memphis, and graduated cum laude with a BA in Psychology. She later attended the University of Houston and earned a MS in Accounting.
She spent most of her working life in corporate America undertaking international tax planning as well as reporting for the SEC.
Deanne is married with two daughters. Both of her daughters had medical issues that made it difficult for them to be in the public school system so she consequently taught both of them, intermittently, at home over the course of their middle and high school careers. Deanne has a unique understanding of the challenges and frustration a parent faces when schooling options are limited. She also realizes how challenging teaching is when students have a variety of challenges in their academic pursuits.
In her free time, Deanne reads and reads and reads…and then reads some more! She also finds herself pursuing various “mini-quests” in order to thoroughly explore a subject that is new to her.
Deanne’s goal during her time at Fusion is striving to be a force that encourages her students to appreciate a life-long love of learning!
