Pam Fox Kuhlken

Teacher/Mentor

Ph.D. in Comparative Literature; M.A. in Poetics; M.A. in Theological Studies

Education

Dr. Pam just finished a Paralegal Certification during COVID, adding to her doctorate in Comparative Literature from the University of California, where her interdisciplinary dissertation explored "the speed of time" in 24 hour Modernist films and novels. She also specializes in World Religions with a Master's in Theology, studying at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and writing a book on the Dead Sea Scrolls. Another Master's in Poetics led to a collection of frontier women's poetic monologues set in the 1880s based on letters, diaries, and folklore accounts.

Experience

After 15 years, Dr. Pam is Professor Emerita from San Diego State University after significant service in four departments: Humanities, English & Comparative Literature, Classics, and Religious Studies. Before that, she was a teaching assistant for six years during her doctoral studies at the U.C., and founding Director of the Writing Center at San Diego Christian College, where the center was instrumental in helping the college regain its accreditation. She founded an online Master's in Creative Writing Program in 2000 granting licensed and accredited Master's degrees; the labor of love is now a certificate program.
