As a lifelong learner of her own opportunities, experiences, and education, with a natural passion and gift for sharing her knowledge in a way that motivates and benefits others, Alison’s role as a Teacher/Mentor at Fusion Academy is indeed the divine design of the cosmos. Alison found great comfort and personal expression with dance and creative writing throughout her formative years, graduating from the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts with a dance diploma in addition to completing her traditional home high school program, where she contributed to the student literary magazine, school newspaper, and choreographed & performed for theatre productions. This introduction to a different model of education helped prepare Alison for eventual success in college, and in her future career as an educator. Alison pursued the top-rated dance program at Arizona State University immediately after high school, then transferred to Chandler Gilbert Community College to complete her Associates Degree in Fine Arts- Dance before returning to ASU to earn her Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree with concentrations in Dance and Wellness Foundations. This well-rounded view of health, wellness, and fitness served Alison nicely as she continued her post-baccalaureate education at Scottsdale Community College in the Iyengar based Yoga Teacher Training program, the only accredited collegiate yoga teacher training program in the state of Arizona. After completing the demanding, intensive two year program and becoming certified as a yoga instructor, beginning to understand the depths of yoga and its holistic benefits, Alison found so much more than another degree. She had also found an infallible system to improve her quality of life, mindset, physical and physiologic body, and a yearning desire to share these tools and gifts with others. Continuing at Scottsdale Community College, Alison completed the Yoga Therapy program, a terminal degree in its field, and is now certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Not only does this give her additional knowledge and insight into the art and science of yoga, it gives her a unique ability to keenly identify areas of improvement for her students and clients to best design sequences for their specific, individual needs. She is trained in therapeutic modifications for a wide variety of conditions and limitations, whether in body or mind. Alison continues to take classes at Scottsdale Community College and from other senior Iyengar Yoga instructors virtually. She has been approved for application status by her mentor, and is now currently pursuing introductory certification as an Iyengar Yoga instructor- the most elite and rigorous yoga teaching certification available worldwide. A diverse background in yoga, dance, fitness, wellness, mindfulness, health education, literature, creative writing, and positive psychology principles provide Alison with the resources to teach many elective and required courses here at Fusion. She could not be more joyful about the opportunities Fusion Academy provides to make such a positive and healthful impact on both the students and community.
