Ryan Schaff

History Department Head

Ryan hails from the mountain town of Placerville, California located off Highway 50 in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He began his higher education at Folsom Lake College where he received his associate’s in social science, before moving to Boise, Idaho where he received his bachelor’s in history and his master’s with a focus on medieval history at Boise State University. His master’s thesis was on Joan of Arc and French and English nationalism during the Hundred Years War. While he was a graduate student at Boise State, Ryan worked as a research assistant in the history department assisting professors with their historical research. For the past two years, Ryan worked as a history tutor with Varsity Tutors, and more recently with City College of San Francisco.

Ryan teaches history, social science, and English at Fusion Academy San Mateo. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys listening to music, traveling, hiking, reading, playing board games, and playing basketball.
