Head of School
Janice comes to the role as Head of School for the San Mateo campus after having worked her entire career in the field of education – creating, delivering, promoting and facilitating learning.
Janice received both her Master of Science – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Bachelor of Arts – Spanish Language and Literature degrees from the State University of New York at Albany. She also lived and worked in Madrid, Spain for several years, which changed her life - personally, academically, and professionally in countless ways.
She has worked as a college professor of Spanish language and Spanish/Latin American history, literature, art and cinema at Notre Dame de Namur University as well as film and media studies at Menlo College; an Au Pair USA cultural exchange coordinator; a Sylvan Learning Center Director; a Thomson Learning Workforce Language/Cultural Development Director and Sales Representative; the founder of her own company, PLACE - Programs in Language And Cultural Education; and an English as a Second/Foreign Language Instructor.
Joining the Fusion team allows her to draw upon this expertise in order to meet students wherever they are in the learning process and to custom-design programs for individuals. What motivates and inspires her as a learning consultant is collaborating with parents and interacting directly with students to enhance their lives and improve family relationships through education. She knows that all students regardless of the experiences they’ve had or the difficulties they face, can learn, and grow given the right opportunities.
It is her hope that all who enter Fusion San Mateo – be they students, parents or employees – will feel that they’re in a welcoming, supportive and enjoyable environment that will bring out the best in them and allow them to shine.
Outside of work, Janice is an avid fiction reader, an enthusiastic photographer, and an intrepid traveler. She loves exploring all that the Bay Area has to offer – nature hikes, world-class sightseeing, wine country, visual and performing arts and a unique, eclectic vibe that suits her perfectly.
