Sophia Levine

Sophia is a dance artist and scholar trained in hatha yoga, compositional improvisation and various modern and post-modern forms. She earned her BA in Dance at Middlebury College and her MFA in Choreography at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In pursuit of the elusive title Doctor of Dance, Sophia is working on her PhD in Critical Dance Studies at the University of California, Riverside (UCR).

Passionate about the body and how it connects us to the world within and around us, Sophia believes that physical and intellectual learning support each other and play equally important roles in a well-rounded education. She has taught, performed and presented papers in the US and abroad in locations including the Dominican Republic and Italy. At UCR she has taught undergraduate dance courses and currently teaches for the University Writing Program.

Sophia enjoys hiking, drinking tea, and mining the interweb for news articles and videos about dance. In her free  time she does jigsaw puzzles, knits stuff and attempts to surf.
