Paul Nelson is an active trombonist in the Los Angeles area. He received bachelor's degrees in Music Theory and Music Performance from the University of Georgia and a master's in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California.
Paul has appeared on dozens of indie, rock, and funk records as trombonist, bass trombonist and arranger for bands and orchestras around the Atlanta, Athens, Nashville and Los Angeles areas. For the 2018-19 school year, he directed the Los Angeles Youth Jazz Ensemble alongside pianist Marco Apicella. Additionally, Paul maintains a studio of young low brass musicians from late elementary school ages to high schoolers and adults. He has shared the stage with bands and leaders such as Bob Mintzer, Patrice Rushen, Futurebirds, Band of Horses, Misnomer and more. His intentions are to continue to compose and release original content, to perform in a wide variety of styles and genres as a low brass artist, and to continue educating and mentoring young, aspiring musicians.
