Doug Kirshen


BA Bowdoin College, Art History and Government; PhD English, Brandeis University


Doug went to Bowdoin College in Maine, where is favorite courses were in Government (Political Science) and Art History--especially Renaissance, Baroque, and Modern Art. Then, a long, long time later, he went to graduate school at Brandeis University and got his PhD in English, researching and writing about plays that were produced in London in the 1890s. He's also studied ancient Greek theater and the Homeric epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey.


For the past five years, Doug has been a Lecturer at Brandeis University, teaching first-year college students how to write papers and conduct research at the college level. He has also worked in college administration at Brandeis, theater marketing at the American Repertory Theater, and arts management at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Fun Facts and Hobbies

  • Doug goes to a lot of plays, museums, and Red Sox games.
  • He loves skiing (he's pretty good at it) and softball (really, really bad).
  • And he recently started playing pickleball.
