Oscar Lugo

Master Teacher



Oscar graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema-Television Studies with a focus on Screenwriting from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). They also obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching with a specialization in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California (USC). While at USC, they served as a Student Ambassador for incoming students, obtained a 4.0 GPA, and completed a master's thesis on the role digital literacy plays in second language acquisition.


Oscar began their teaching career in 2007 in South Korea. What was supposed to be a one-year hiatus from film work became a passion and new career path. Oscar worked at two English language academies in and around Seoul for five and a half years, as well as a public elementary school, where they were Lead Teacher for two years. While completing their MAT at USC, Oscar completed their student teaching at the Escondido Adult School, where they worked with adults from various linguistic backgrounds.

Fun Facts and Hobbies

  • Spent two months camping from Cape Town to Nairobi
  • Watches about 100 new movies per year and is a voting member of Film Independent (FIND)
  • Oscar and their husband of nearly a decade have one pup, Lali, in their arms and another, Cloud, in the sky
