Education

Sydney received her Bachelors in Science in Natural Resource Conservation at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. During her time at UMass Amherst she was also a part of a selective research program called the iCons Program. Throughout her undergraduate career Sydney was able to conduct self-guided research with the help of her college mentors. Sydney did studies on everything from bacteria being able to remediate heavy metals in groundwater to creating tiles that convert heat to renewable electrical energy! Sydney is now pursuing her Masters in Secondary Education for Earth Science as well as certification in Special Education. Sydney is excited to continue her education as an avid lifelong learner.

Experience

Sydney started her career in education working for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County (CCE Nassau) as an Environmental Science Program Director. Sydney facilitated outdoor education for Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp in Riverhead which truly sparked her love for education. While completing her master’s degree, Sydney began working full time for CCE Nassau as an Administrator for the sleep-away camp program helping with the educational curriculum/ overall camp operations. Last year, Sydney was a leave replacement at the Oyster Bay East Norwich School District. Sydney taught regents level Earth Science as well as Environmental Science at Oyster Bay High School. Sydney is now excited to be joining The Fusion Academy!

  • Spends most of her free time hiking, camping and enjoying the outdoors
  • Spending time with her two crested geckos Taco & Pico
  • Going to concerts and painting
