Chris Thaw

Teacher/Mentor

Education

Chris graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in Jazz Studies. During his time there, he became a prolific jazz and classical composer, often writing entire recitals of original music from himself, his peers, and on occasion, visiting professional artists. His environment allowed him to hone his craft as a composer and performer, and even provided him the opportunity to open for Herbie Hancock with his jazz quintet, playing both original music and jazz standards with a twist.

Experience

Prior to joining the Fusion team, Chris taught privately at a music studio, where he gave expert instrumental instruction on drums/percussion, piano, and all brass instruments. Most of his students received outstanding or perfect NYSSMA scores, and many of them received partial or even full scholarships to college for music. He also worked as a crisis prevention and intervention specialist at a school for children with developmental disabilities for nearly ten years.
