Director of Homework Café
KatieJane is so excited to serve as the Director of the Homework Café at Houston Galleria! She is a mover and a shaker! She loves to advocate for and give back to her community. Over the past fifteen years, KatieJane has spent countless hours volunteering, including serving in homeless shelters across North Texas, advocating for and speaking publicly about students with Type 1 Diabetes, and organizing events and lessons for at-risk and impoverished youth. She mentored with the Big Brother Big Sister foundation, worked with students with disabilities at various therapeutic horse-riding ranches, and founded “The Glass Slipper” in Denison, Texas, a non-profit organization that donates prom dresses to female students in need.
KatieJane studied Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music in Boston for two years before transferring to Dallas Baptist University. At DBU, KatieJane completed her degree in Music Business and Songwriting. During her time in college, KatieJane served as a mentor to freshmen and a Resident Assistant in the dorms, a producer/planner for the university-wide Music Business Showcase, and a GrammyU Recording Academy Campus Ambassador.
After college, KatieJane served weekly in a youth prison outreach program at the Marzielle Hill Juvenile Detention Center in Dallas before spending several months in Dublin, Ireland, preparing and serving meals to homeless patrons and hosting after school Kids Club programs for impoverished Irish youth. KatieJane has several years’ experience in event planning and is so excited to engage Fusion students in the Homework Cafe in games, community service, teamwork, and educational fun.
In addition to mentoring, music, and volunteering, KatieJane loves Earth and space science, literature, outdoor activities, art, and especially coffee. When she grows up, KatieJane wants to be an astronaut and fly to the moon! For now, you can find her writing songs, walking her dog Deni, dreaming about traveling, or telling a fun fact to anyone who will listen!
