History & Teacher/Mentor
Since graduating from Montclair State University, in 2003, Michael has been a teacher and mentor of young people in various schools, settings and environments. But one thing that has remained constant, has been Michael’s belief that he is learning from students, just as they are from him.
Michael has a deep love for stories and believes that the only difference between Literature & History is that one is fictional and the other is not, but that both describe the truth of human nature. Both subjects encompass not only novels & poetry, facts & dates but also psychology, sociology, culture, beliefs, language, and so much more. Mike is a fan of anything having to do with comic books, Star Wars, and the literary worlds created by J.R.R. Tolkien, Frank Herbert, Stephen King, Isaac Asimov, or whichever author he has most recently discovered. For Michael, one of the best things about teaching is that he gets to spend the majority of his time talking about great stories.
When Mike is not teaching, he can still be found volunteering his time with the teens in his home town, allowing him to always remember the teens’ point of view, through weekly youth group meetings, annual retreats & service trips, confirmation retreats, service projects, and community outreach. The accomplishment Michael is most proud of is seeing the number of teens he has worked with, both as a teacher and as a mentor, who have gone on to become teachers and mentors themselves, passing on what they have learned to the next generation of young people.
