Truman was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. In 1988, he moved to Texas to pursue a football career at the University of North Texas, until a football injury changed his plans. After moving on from football, he decided to put his athletic mindset and mentoring into youth and adult sports where he coached youth ages 8-15 in football, and young adults ages 18-30 in Semi-Pro basketball and football as well. After 25 years of doing both, he retired and decided to give 100% to raising a family. In 2005, he returned to school to complete his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas. In 2014, he decided to return to school to complete his Master’s degree from Strayer University in Education.
Since receiving both degrees, Truman has spent his classroom time teaching in the Dallas Independent School District where he taught Criminal Justice, and in the charter school sector as a Physical Education teacher. He has been in education for 8 years.
Truman has been married for the past 14 years and has a blended family that consists of three sons and four daughters. In his spare time, he can be found coaching his two youngest daughters in softball, watching movies, and riding his bike.
