Education
In her role, Sarah most frequently utilizes the skills she learned from her Master of Arts in Teaching Exceptional Learners from Relay Graduate School of Education and her graduate certificate in Assistive Technology from the University of Illinois Chicago. Sarah also completed a self-designed Bachelor of Arts concentrating in Journalism, Communication, and Graphic Design with minors in Theology and Not-for-Profit Business from Concordia University Chicago and earned three certificates from eCornell in Nutrition and Healthy Living, Digital Marketing, and Data Driven Marketing.
Experience
In addition to her experience as a special education teacher in a Chicago charter school and 6 years working or volunteering with non-profits specializing in after-school activities, Sarah has been identified as a national leader in Inclusive Post-Secondary Education for students with intellectual disabilities and related developmental disabilities. Prior to joining the team at Fusion, Sarah led an academic program at the University of Illinois Chicago, was the state coordinator for a consortium of colleges and universities in Illinois working to grow students with intellectual disabilities' access to post-secondary education, and spoke at international and national events about disability justice and creative ways to make inclusive education more accessible.
Fun Facts and Hobbies
- Is training her dog, Ziggy, to be able to do disaster relief work
- Moved 12 times before she turned 20 but has deep family roots in Chicago and Rhode Island
- Loves Type 2 fun: next on her bucket list are El Camino de Santiago and RAGBRAI
