Camila Mennitte Pereyra
Camila Mennitte Pereyra is a music teacher at Fusion Academy Lincoln Park. She was born and raised in Argentina and came to the United States in 2014 to attend college. Camila received a Bachelors' degree in Percussion Performance at the University of Eau-Claire, WI, and a Master's degree in Jazz Studies at Indiana University in Bloomington. Her main instrument is drums, and she is an active performer in the city of Chicago.
Camila taught a private studio at Indiana University through her TA drum set position. She has volunteered and taught extensively at summer camps such as Shell Lake Arts Center, and at a Juvenile Detention Center as a part of a Mentoring Grant during her Undergraduate studies. In addition to teaching at Fusion Academy Lincoln Park, Camila teaches at the CPS Advanced Arts Program as a Teaching Artist. She has been awarded the Jazz Institute of Chicago “Jazz Links Fellowship 2020-2021.”
Other than music and drumming, Camila absolutely loves exploring the different neighborhoods of Chicago. She regularly travels around the city trying to find family-owned businesses with the best coffee, bakery items, and handmade decor. She also loves playing Scrabble!
A fun fact about Camila is that she will sometimes do a little derpy dance. She acquired this amazing skill from her little brother Lorenzo, who always does a derpy dance when he feels happy.
