Maki, a native of Tokyo, Japan, first came to the U.S. as a college student and fell in love with its dynamic culture and people. She set her mind to pursue higher education in the U.S. and was offered a graduate assistantship position at Georgia College and State University where she earned her master's degree in Education (M. Ed.). She is a GA certified teacher for P-12 in Learning Disabilities and has been working as an educator in various capacities serving different age groups for many years. She also has vast working experience as a professional linguist, a QA tester/Localization specialist, and most recently a life coach and consultant for global businesses.
Maki believes in the power of dreams and the importance of instilling the love of learning at an early age. She is a life-long learner and deeply passionate about education! She strives to reflect the true meaning of education, that is “educe" derived from the Latin word meaning “to bring forth from within” and “to lead out” in her teaching and mentoring.
Maki resides in North Atlanta with her husband, her younger daughter who is in high school, and two cats! Her older daughter is a recent college graduate and currently lives in New York City pursuing her BIG dream! In her spare time, she loves to travel, discover interesting places around town, and enjoys exploring new cuisines and spending time with her family and friends.
As a Japanese teacher and mentor at Fusion Academy Buckhead, Maki is excited to bring her own experience as a second language learner of English, her expertise in education, and global perspective. She deeply cares about the community and keeping the world a place filled with hope for our future generation where we all can dream and thrive!
