Jessica Ferri

English/Creative Arts Teacher/Mentor

Born and raised in Georgia, Jessica moved to the Bay Area with her family in 2019 after thirteen years in her spiritual home, New York City. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from Indiana University Bloomington, where she also studied at the Jacobs School of Music. She also holds a Master's Degree from Brooklyn College's Conservatory of Music in Voice Performance, where she specialized in the dramatic repertoire, singing Verdi and Wagner.

After several years working in book publishing, Jessica realized she’d rather be a writer than an editor. Her criticism, on books primarily focused on feminism and art, has been published by The Economist, NPR, Yahoo!, The New Yorker, Literary Hub, The Daily Beast, and more. She is the author of two books on the history of American cemeteries: Silent Cities New York and Silent Cities San Francisco. She contributes to The Los Angeles Times as a book critic and is at work on her first novel. Jessica is thrilled to join the Fusion Berkeley team.
