Charlie Thimesch
Teacher/Mentor
Education
Charlie earned his BA in English literature with a minor in French from Whitman College in gorgeous Walla Walla, Washington. He went on to study linguistics at the University of Amsterdam where he specialized in sociolinguistics and second language acquisition. He is currently pursuing a second MA in French linguistics at Middlebury College.
Experience
Charlie has been teaching in various capacities since 2018. He’s taught English as a foreign language in France and Georgia (the country) and, most recently, at a language institute in San Francisco. Before the pandemic, he worked at the Jewish Community Center in Berkeley teaching art and chess classes. In 2020, he went back to school to learn more about the messy process of learning a second language as well as the ways in which language shapes who we are and how we move through the world. He is happy to be back in the Bay Area and back in the classroom where he feels the most inspired.
