Garris will be serving as a part-time ASL tutor for those interested in continuing their sign language education. She spent most of her time earning her B.S. in Political Science whilst living overseas, but will be continuing her M.A. in Deaf Studies: Language and Human Rights at Gallaudet, beginning this fall. Working mostly as an Educational Interpreter since 2012, Garris also enjoys teaching sign language at the local community colleges prior to moving to Virginia this summer.
Her favorite activities include reading (with coffee in-hand), volunteer work (prior to a stop at the local cafe), and taking her kids to the ice cream parlor (for coffee-flavored ice cream, naturally). A special tip from Garris: "One can often excel at Roller Derby - not through sheer aggressiveness, nor a tough attitude - but through fear alone, which will motivate one to skate....very.....fast."
