William Hess

Most simply stated: I was born, have lived, and will die, yet the particulars of that existence fascinate us.  Born in small-town Pennsylvania, I moved as an infant to New Jersey and grew up there, completing my undergraduate work in Comparative Literature at Rutgers University.  As a married adult, I moved to Arlington, Virginia and completed a Masters of Arts in Literature at The American University.  I have two daughters and a son, all of whom I love passionately.  I spent 15 years living and teaching in the Miami area and returned to Virginia in 2008.  From my youth, I have been involved in social justice issues.  I have cooked in soup kitchens, counseled in homeless centers, and built affordable housing for low-income families.   Education, properly done, is the most liberating of human endeavors.
