Born in Washington, DC, and raised in Arlington, VA, Lara knows the DC Metro Area like the back of her hand. Both of her parents are Hispanic immigrants; mother from Peru, and father from Spain. They came to the United States to follow the American Dream, and pursued careers as journalists at CNN and the Sierra Club. With passionate, diverse, and ever curious parents, Lara grew up in an environment where questions and opinions were the driving force of daily life. Lara’s love of learning and plenty of exposure to the world around her has fostered her drive for scientific inquiries.
Lara graduated from the College of William & Mary with a degree in Marine Ecology. While at the College of William & Mary, she also spent time with her Alpha Chi Omega Sorority Sisters, heading the Earth Week Committee, and working at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science as a Lab Technician.
Lara’s goal for each of her students is to inspire in them the same level of passion she has for science, mathematics, and preserving the natural world around us. Her interests include environmental conservation, watercolor painting, cooking, and social justice activism.
