Math & Science Department Head; Brainhoney Super User (Liaison)
Elizabeth Sebastian is the Science Department Head at Fusion Academy Brooklyn. She is also the Super User of Buzz (Learning Management System) and Genius (Student Information System) at Fusion Brooklyn.
Elizabeth is currently an assistant researcher in the NASA Climate Change Research Initiative (CCRI) at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. Elizabeth works directly with a NASA scientist to research urban heat islands and effective green infrastructure. Elizabeth has developed a STEM curriculum for her classes utilizing the research and NASA education resources. As part of the program, Elizabeth has held community engagement events presenting her research and how to utilize NASA resources in order to engage the community with NASA and current research at NASA.
Elizabeth also currently serves on the Education Advisory Board for Infiniscope. As a member of the board, she tests brand new online science education technology to bring new styles of learning into the modern classroom.
Elizabeth graduated from Towson University in Maryland with an Education Degree. When Elizabeth was in college, she attended the Pre-service Teaching Institute at the National Institute of Aerospace where she learned to incorporate STEM into the curriculum. In her senior year, Elizabeth presented a research project at the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics to show teachers how to implement art into everyday math activities.
Elizabeth grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Elizabeth spent most of her life in the beach town of Ocean City where she spent every summer picking crabs. She attended the blue ribbon high school Stephen Decatur where she played field hockey and was a member of the local dance team. After living in Maryland her entire life, Elizabeth moved to New York to be closer to family. Elizabeth enjoys traveling to see family and friends, attending science events/lectures, dancing, seeing Broadway shows, reading, and watching her NY sports teams (Yankees, Islanders, Giants, Knicks).
