Meifen was born in Taiwan and attended The National Chengchi University in Taipei, with a major in Chinese literature and minor in education. After University, Meifen focused on raising and teaching her three children. She emigrated to the USA in 1992 to begin a new chapter of her life. It was quite a challenge!
Ms. Chang begin her first part-time teaching position in the summer of 2000 at the Taiwanese School of Language and Culture in Houston, while working full-time as an Associate with Maersk, Inc. In 2008, she quit her job in order to attend The Rice University Institute for Chinese Language Teaching Program, and continue on the path to become a certified teacher. She completed the Pre-Service Training Teacher Certification Program, and obtained her teacher certification in May 2009. She also completed the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) Writing Proficiency Test and Oral Proficiency Interview for Mandarin and both tests were rated superior.
She taught at Houston public schools prior to moving to Austin in 2013, and retired from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in June, 2018 after teaching Mandarin for 5-years. She joins the Fusion team with a hope to utilize her experience guiding students in a very unique teaching environment.
She enjoys visiting her children and grandchildren, cooking for her family, and playing video games in her spare time.
