How one-to-one works
Each student has a unique daily and weekly schedule, with courses based on his or her interests, strengths, and academic track. Teachers at Fusion Academy are experts in their subject areas, so students will likely have a different teacher for each class. However, each student also has a Lead Teacher who acts as the student’s mentor and is the main source of communication between the school and parents.
The advantages of one-to-one classes include:
Self-Paced Learning
We practice the Mastery Learning instructional method, which means that our teachers don’t move on to the next lesson until the student has demonstrated proficiency with the current one. So if a student is struggling with a certain topic, her teacher will work with her on it for as long as it takes for her to understand the material. And if that student is a natural when it comes to another topic, she might even get to advance to the next lesson early.
Personalized Teaching Styles
For some students, the traditional lecture-based class just isn’t conducive to learning. Maybe they learn most effectively by doing a hands-on activity. Or role playing. Or reading a passage out of a book. The point is, every student has a unique learning style. Our teachers identify that style, and then tailor their instruction to fit it. This makes us an ideal fit for students with learning differences such as ADHD or dyslexia, who may require specialized instruction.
Never a Dull Moment
Walk into a traditional classroom and you’ll likely spot a few distracted students passing notes, doodling, and daydreaming. That’s definitely not the case in Fusion’s classrooms. Our teachers ensure that their students are actively engaged and excited about what they’re learning, whether that means picking out literature to read that actually interests them, or presenting a history lesson in a way that brings it to life.
No Shortage of Social Interaction
Our students have plenty of opportunities to hang out with their peers. We strongly encourage students to socialize with one another before, during, and after school hours. In addition, the
Homework Café® is open all day, and you’ll often find students working together or talking quietly once their homework is completed. Some campuses even organize group field trips or activities that give students a chance to get to know one another.
Come See it for Yourself
It’s impossible to truly see what makes our one-to-one classes so special until you experience them for yourself, so we invite you to come take a personal tour of one of our campuses.
